Mr Revell, whose antics were televised by Sky One, risked literally the shirt on his back after selling all his possessions, including his clothes.

"I was feeling lucky", he said. 

Mr Revell said he only decided at the last moment to go for red.
When the ball finally came to a rest in the red pocket, he punched the air with delight and was greeted with a bottle of champagne and cheers from the watching crowd.

After the win, Ashley said: "That was just the most amazing experience I have ever had in my life.

Mr Revell added: "The main thing I have learned from all this was that it wasn't really about the money. "I'm not married and I haven't got kids. It's almost like my last chance to go nuts."

He even changed his name by deed poll to Ashley "Blue Square" Revell after the UK online bookmaker increased his gambling pot.
