Roulette- Biased Wheels Print E-mail
One firm favorite of roulette legends that often crops up when 2 people discuss ways of finding a fail-safe way of winning at roulette is the subject of biased roulette wheels.

We are, of course referring to land based roulette, or online Live roulette, not virtual roulette whose outcome is driven solely by a random number generator, or RNG.

The theory is that any mechanical roulette wheel will contain some inherent imperfections that over the course of a long session will tend to bias some numbers over others. If you can work out the bias, the theory goes, you can get an edge. And if you can get a roulette edge, you are on the way to being able to predict the statistical distribution of the outcomes more accurately.

However, in order to work out a a bias in any one wheel, you would need to monitor 5000 spins at the very minimum to have a statistically robust sample. You are unlikely to discover a bias on the even money bets (even/odd, red/black etc). More probable is that you'll find a bias on a certain group of numbers.

The house certainly doesn't want any bias that will cut down on its advantage as the house edge at roulette relies on the odds being 37 to 1 for each number over time.

If certain numbers crop up more often than this over time, and someone latches on to it, the casino loses money.

Spotting any sort of bias involves recording outcomes on an individual wheel over a long period- something that casinos watch out for anyway, for example if you are fervently writing down outcomes on a piece of paper.

Generally, the casinos spend money on making sure that the quality of the wheels are as near perfect as possible, and if there are imperfections-they are so small as to be almost impossible to spot, or that reduce the house edge by a tiny amount.

The bottom line is that the house has an advantage in roulette. You are unlikely to cancel that out by monitoring for a biased wheel (but it is theoretically possible!)

The other influence on the roulette numbers is dealer signature. This theory centres around the individual roulette dealers who may have been spinning the ball for so long that they have developed a certain style and speed that is not 100% random. This could result in some numbers coming up more often than others, particularly if the dealer releases the ball at a certain point dring each game.

Try and look for someone who looks bored out of their skins. They are mnore than likey to have built in some repetition into their work.

Again, it takes roughly 5000 spins to work out any patterns, so will be a slow haul, if this is how you decide to try and make your fortune on roulette.

Some people even think that the dealer can consciously affect the outcome of the game and that if you tip the dealer heavily, this will run in your favour. We know for sure that you are guaranteed to win money at roulette using this system, but only if you are the dealer receiving the heavy tips!
