Roulette is a game of chance. Anyone who enjoys playing this fun game may also be interested in its origins. How did the game of roulette come about and what country did it originate in? Whether you are a history buff or a roulette buff you are sure to learn something from this history lesson.
Roulette comes from the French word and means “small wheel”. While we don’t have the exact facts of how the game was invented or who invented it, we do have quite a few speculations and legends as to the beginnings of roulette. The first legend states that the scientist, Blaise Pascal, was experimenting with perpetual motion. During one of his experiments he created a big wheel. It was one of his friends who decided that the device should be used for gambling. A myth surrounding how to win at roulette goes as follows. The man who founded the first casinos in Monte Carlo, Francois Blanc, was determined to find a way to win at roulette. He added all the numbers on the wheel together and came up with 666. He saw this as a sign to sell his soul to the devil to find the secret of roulette. |
